Professional biography
Sebastian Wündisch is a partner in the intellectual property law group at Noerr, one of Germany's leading full-service law firms. With more than twenty-five years of experience at the intersection of intellectual property, technology transfer, and licensing, he advises clients on the full lifecycle of IP-driven transactions - from the structuring and negotiation of complex license and R&D agreements to the resolution of disputes that arise from them. The handling of IP and licenses in restructuring and insolvency situations is another rather unique part of his expertise.
A significant dimension of Sebastian's practice is devoted to contentious matters. He regularly represents clients in both national and international arbitration and court proceedings involving license and R&D agreements, bringing a practitioner's depth of understanding to each dispute. His expertise in this area has also been recognized abroad: he has served as an expert witness in intellectual property licensing matters before U.S. courts, underscoring his standing as a trusted authority on cross-border IP issues.
Beyond his transactional and litigation work, Sebastian is deeply engaged in the academic and thought-leadership side of his field. He holds honorary professorships at both TU Dresden and the University of Leipzig, where he contributes to the next generation of legal scholarship in technology transfer and intellectual property law. He serves as co-chair of the standing committee for R&D contracts at the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy and is also a prolific author, having published numerous works on topics central to his practice.
Sebastian's peers and the legal market consistently affirm his preeminence. He is regularly named in the IAM 300 Global Leader IP Strategy and IAM 1000 Patent Law rankings, recognized as a Best Lawyer in the categories of Intellectual Property and Technology Law, and featured by Lexology. German media have described him as "one of the most renowned experts in technology transfer law".
