Professional biography
Dr. Li Wu is a Senior Partner at Lifang & Partners in Beijing. He is qualified as an attorney-at-law and patent attorney in both China and the United States. His practice covers all areas of intellectual property law, with a focus on patent prosecution, invalidation, and litigation, and he advises clients on global IP protection and enforcement strategies. Dr. Wu’s work centers on technology-intensive industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, medical devices, automotive, and telecommunications. He has particular experience in pharmaceutical regulatory and patent-linkage matters, as well as in standard-essential patent and FRAND disputes, and has represented clients before the Chinese courts and the CNIPA. Beyond his advocacy practice, he serves as an arbitrator and mediator in IP and technology disputes. Dr. Wu holds a doctorate in neuroscience and spent more than ten years as a research scientist before entering legal practice, with his research on calcium channel regulation published in Nature. This scientific background allows him to bridge the legal and technical dimensions of complex patent matters. Dr. Wu is a council member of the Intellectual Property Law Research Association of the China Law Society and of the All-China Patent Attorneys Association, a panel arbitrator of the Ningbo Arbitration Commission, and a guest professor at East China University of Science and Technology. He has been consistently ranked as a leading IP practitioner in China by major legal directories, including Chambers and Partners (2021–2026), The Legal 500 (2019–2026), Asialaw Profiles (2023–2026), and IAM Patent 1000 (2023–2026), and was named one of ALB's China Top 15 IP Lawyers in 2019.
