During his time as a full-time attorney-at-law in Belgium, including with firms such as Linklaters and DLA Piper, he focused exclusively on commercial dispute resolution, including numerous patent and IP/IT matters, before the Belgian courts and in arbitration proceedings. His experience covers a broad range of complex disputes, although it does not extend to pleadings before administrative or regulatory authorities, apart from appearances before national courts in Belgium and, in one instance, Luxembourg.

His experience is strictly legal in nature, and he does not possess a technical background, although many of the patent matters in which he has been involved have included significant technical components. He has nevertheless maintained a strong personal interest in science and technology.
