Professional legal or litigation experience related to the scope of competence of the PMAC

Since 2014, he has practised intellectual property law at PTCS & Associados in Porto, becoming partner in 2022, with a focus on patent litigation and advisory work, including pharmaceutical patent disputes, licensing agreements, and validity challenges. He has been awarded the title of Specialist in Intellectual Property, Industrial Property and Competition Law by the Portuguese Bar Association and is an authorised representative before the EUIPO. Since 2016, he has acted as arbitrator for ARBITRARE and WIPO, including as party-appointed arbitrator in pharmaceutical patent arbitrations under Portugal’s Law 62/2011, and has served as sole arbitrator in domain name disputes and as counsel in IP-related arbitrations involving software, copyright, and commercial contracts. His experience also includes legislative advisory work, contributing to Angola’s Industrial Property Code and advising the Government of East Timor on copyright legislation. Since 2020, he has served as Assistant Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, teaching Industrial Property Law and publishing on patent law topics including stem cell patents, the Unitary Patent System, computer-implemented inventions, and the interface between patents and competition law. He has also acted as national expert for EUIPO and WIPO studies on IP enforcement and trademark protection.
