Until April 2023, served in the European Patent Office as Chairman of the Legal Board of Appeal. Appointed as a Legal Member of the Boards of Appeal in 2005 and joined Technical Board of Appeal 3.5.06 (Computer Technology) in 2010, serving as its Chairman from 2014 to 2018.
Prior to his tenure at the EPO, served as a judge in Germany, including at the Federal Patent Court and the Munich Regional Court, where presided over IP cases.
