Professional biography
Jérôme began his professional career in industry in Germany (software specification) and, after military service as a Navy officer, worked as a managing director in France, at the head of a workforce of some 400 people.
He qualified more than 20 years ago as a French and European Patent Attorney and has served since 2010 as one of only four court-appointed experts (experts judiciaires) specialising in patents in France. He has also received in-depth training in mediation (CMAP, Paris; WIPO, Geneva) and holds the European Patent Litigation Certificate and a university diploma in judicial expertise.
Partner and head of the patent litigation department of the IPSILON Group (intellectual property attorneys, 450 staff across Europe), he also advises his own clients in patent disputes.
Since his first appointment he has acted in numerous court-ordered technical expert proceedings in patent cases in France, Germany and Belgium, and in infringement, revocation and employee-invention disputes as well as in saisie-contrefaçon (infringement seizure) operations, before French first-instance and appellate courts and, increasingly, before the Unified Patent Court — in particular in cases in which the Paris Local Division ordered a measure to preserve evidence.
Jérôme is genuinely curious, and before turning to patent law he built a broad technical background: at a renowned multidisciplinary French grande école d'ingénieurs, at the University of Manchester (UMIST — Advanced Master of Science in Information Engineering), and at the Universities of Liège (Belgium) and Las Palmas (Spain), where he obtained a European Diploma of Advanced Studies in Marine Environmental Simulation.
He therefore handles a wide spectrum of technical subject matter across IT, mechanics and materials, including, among others:
- computer science, artificial intelligence, non-linear optimisation, image processing;
- medical, surgical and veterinary devices and compositions (eyes, teeth, knee, heart, bones, skin);
- automotive, aerospace and agricultural machinery (engines, exhaust gas filters, injectors, fuel treatment, driver assistance, engine mounts, software);
- robotics and micromechanics;
- communications: optical fibres, connectors, signal conditioning;
- packaging, printers, embossing machines, conveyors, production lines, detectors, filling machines, fire protection, waste management, civil engineering, security papers;
- consumer goods (electronic cigarettes, cookware, audio amplifiers, fragrance diffusers, spectacles, helmets);
- ceramic materials, glass, technical fabrics.
Jérôme is, first and foremost, an analytical thinker. He works from facts, applicable rules and evidence rather than from instinct: where intuition offers a shortcut, he prefers a reasoned path that can be explained, tested and defended. Methodical, rigorous analysis leads to reliable conclusions.
That rigour is nonetheless tempered by a strong sense of balance and proportion: in the interests of efficiency, he weighs what matters against what does not.
With the parties, Jérôme attaches great importance to the adversarial principle and to respectful, active listening — understanding what is actually meant, and not merely what is said.
He is driven by a genuine sense of service to justice, and is careful to work within the constraints he is given, in particular as to deadlines and budgets.
