Professional biography
Harry Reinhardt is a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with more than 35 years of experience in intellectual property law. At Nottingham Trent University, UK, Harry also completed a postgraduate LL.M. in Advanced Litigation.
In addition to his patent law practice, he also acts as a business mediator and trainer in mediation since 20 years. As part of a tri-national training programme (INMEDIATE), he obtained a qualification as a ‘European Mediator trained in Europe’ alongside Italian, Polish and German mediators. Furthermore, he is a certified coach.
His consulting approach is holistic, aligning technological developments, business objectives, communicative skills and legal frameworks in a structured way.
In his capacity as mediator, he served as Chair of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Mediation in der Wirtschaft (DGMW) from 2016 to 2022. He was also a member of the German Mediation Council (Deutscher Mediationsrat – Verbund der Verbände) for the DGMW – for more than 10 years.
His technical background and legal practice focus particularly on mechanical engineering, civil engineering and medical technology. His expertise is further complemented by knowledge in electrical engineering.
As a patent attorney, he advises companies on the filing, enforcement and defense of technical intellectual property rights – both nationally and internationally. A key aspect of his work is the development of practical patent strategies for innovative technologies. His legal specialization includes licensing law and employee invention law.
Drawing on his experience in strategic negotiation and alternative dispute resolution, Harry supports complex commercial projects. These include licensing negotiations, disputes concerning IP rights and inventor compensation, as well as internal conflicts within innovation processes. This may result in mediation or coaching sessions. He conducted approximately 25 alternative dispute resolutions.

Brief description
My preferred style of mediation is the transformative one, as in my experience the parties’ own recognition is most likely to lead to lasting results. However, in some cases, the use of facilitative language can help achieve the objective somewhat more quickly, which is also in the parties’ best interests. Coaching tools are helpful in both cases.
