Professional biography
Ivett Paulovics is an independent arbitrator and mediator specialising in intellectual property and technology disputes, and a lawyer qualified in Italy and Hungary with over twenty years of experience in intellectual property, technology, and international business law. Her practice combines adjudicative and facilitative dispute resolution with advisory and policy work in complex cross-border disputes involving technical subject matter. She is the founder of Avv. Ivett Paulovics Law Firm in Milan. As arbitrator, she has rendered more than 130 decisions in international intellectual property disputes under various institutional frameworks. She serves on the panels of FORUM (USA), the Canadian International Internet Dispute Resolution Centre, the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (Hong Kong), the Czech Arbitration Court – ADR Center for Internet Disputes, and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association for intellectual property and commercial disputes. She has also acted as counsel in over 100 disputes across multiple jurisdictions. From 2015 to 2024 she was Legal Case Manager at MFSD Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution Center, where she handled more than 150 online dispute resolution proceedings under the Uniform Rapid Suspension System and led the centre's accreditation before ICANN. In mediation, she has completed certified mediator training, has acted as counsel in intellectual property mediation proceedings, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Mediation Committee of the European Communities Trademark Association (ECTA), where she contributes to the promotion and development of mediation in intellectual property disputes. Her background includes substantial experience in patent-related disputes: she has assisted clients in validity and infringement proceedings before national courts, working closely with technical experts and coordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation strategies, which has given her a solid understanding of technically complex disputes and the evidentiary challenges they entail. Her practice further covers trade secrets, designs, trademarks, geographical indications, copyright and digital technologies, as well as licensing and technology transfer agreements. Before founding her own firm, she spent more than a decade in private practice in Milan, first as Senior Associate and then as Partner, focusing on intellectual property, technology law and international commercial matters. Ivett is an external consultant to the European Commission, authoring legal and comparative studies on the digital protection of intellectual property rights and alternative dispute resolution systems, including studies for DG Connect and DG Grow on DNS abuse, abusive .eu domain name registrations and intellectual property domain name alert systems. She is a member of the European Commission's .eu Multistakeholder Advisory Group and High-Level Group on Internet Governance, and of the ICANN Rights Protection Mechanisms Policy Development Process Working Group. She is a contributing author at LexisNexis on ADR, intellectual property and TMT matters, and a regular speaker and trainer on dispute resolution, intellectual property and technology law. She holds a Juris Doctor (cum laude) from Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest and has completed postgraduate courses at Università degli Studi di Milano and specialised programmes with WIPO, EUIPO, the Milan Bar Association and the London School of Economics. She works in Italian, English and Hungarian.

Brief description

Ivett adopts a primarily facilitative approach, helping the parties identify their underlying interests, improve communication and develop their own solutions. Where the parties so request and the applicable rules or law permit, she can formulate a settlement proposal, moving towards a more evaluative approach informed by her experience as an arbitrator in intellectual property and technology disputes. She tailors the process to the needs of the parties and the dispute, combining structure and efficiency with respect for party autonomy and confidentiality.
