He has over 30 years’ professional experience working with complex disputes involving technology, engineering, automotive, and business matters and over 20 completed mediations. Andrew is a Registered Civil & Commercial Mediator with the UK Civil Mediation Council and an Accredited Neutral at the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the Unified Patent Court. He is also a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney and a partner at Cleveland Scott York LLP, where he has extensive experience in contentious intellectual property and commercial disputes. As well as being a registered mediator, Andrew still practises as a Patent Attorney. Andrew has law qualifications and an engineering degree, is highly numerate, and readily understands complex technology and engineering drawings. He also has a thorough understanding of the psychology of relationships and disputes. In his career, as well as dealing with cutting-edge inventions and technology, he has started, grown and sold businesses and operated in Managing Director, Managing Partner and Chair roles. He has also been regularly involved with technology procurement. He is comfortable reading legal, technical and financial documents and expert at distilling these down to the salient points, in clear language. Andrew is also a qualified conflict coach and community mediator, working with Mediation & Community Support (MACS) in Warwickshire. His community and workplace mediation experience incorporates transformative mediation techniques, complementing his commercial practice with a deeper understanding of the interpersonal dynamics that can influence disputes. His early career as a design engineer in the automotive and space sectors enables him to quickly understand technically complex issues, allowing parties to focus on resolution rather than explanation. Andrew is known for his calm, pragmatic approach and for keeping mediations commercially focused and constructive.
