Studied law and sciences at the University of Oxford, Lincoln College, obtaining Honours in Jurisprudence (1987) and in Physiological Sciences (1988), and was later admitted to the degree of Master of Arts (MA Oxon.). Holder of two postgraduate diplomas from King’s College London, in EU Competition Law (1997) and in Comparative Copyright Law (2006). In addition, called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple, 1989), admitted as an Attorney-at-Law in New York (1990), registered as a US Patent Attorney before the USPTO (1991), and admitted as a European Lawyer in Geneva, Switzerland (2003). Certified IMI Mediator and Mediation Advocate.

Over 25 years of experience in mediation and more than 35 years in IP legal practice, including extensive litigation and advisory work in patent infringement, validity, and related IP disputes before national courts and other competent authorities.

Professional technical experience related to the scope of competence of the PMAC

Over 30 years of practice across life sciences, information technology, and other technology sectors, in roles such as litigation counsel, International IP Counsel, General Counsel, and external advisor, with responsibility for patent portfolios, licensing, and disputes in fields spanning pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, software, and engineering.

Certified mediator and mediation advocate with the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and accredited by numerous international institutions, including CEDR (London), CMAP (Paris), CPR (New York), SCCM/CSCMC/SKWM (Switzerland), FSM (Switzerland), SIMC (Singapore), SIMI (Singapore), SMC (Singapore), JAMS (USA), AAA/ICDR (USA), ICC (Paris), INTA, and WIPO. Over 25 years of practical experience as a mediator since 1999, having conducted more than 400 complex commercial mediations worldwide, the majority involving intellectual property and technology disputes that would be today within the scope of the PMAC. Served as mediator, neutral, conciliator and occaisonally as arbitrator on institutional rosters including WIPO, AAA/ICDR, ICC, CEDR, CMAP, CPR, JAMS, SIMC, and others, and accredited by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) as a certified mediator and mediation advocate. Mediations have covered disputes in sectors such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, ICT, software, consumer products and engineering, in both common law and civil law jurisdictions.
