Peter Kather

He has over 40 years of experience advising and litigating in the field of intellectual property law, with a continued focus on technical intellectual property rights, and has handled hundreds of patent and utility model infringement cases before national courts of first and second instance (Regional Courts and Higher Regional Courts), as well as accompanying proceedings before the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) at the appellate level. His practice covers a wide range of technical fields, including mechanical engineering, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemistry, and biotechnology, and he has participated—often in a leading role—in parallel validity proceedings before the Federal Patent Court and the Federal Court of Justice, as well as before the European Patent Office (EPO) and its Boards of Appeal. He has led numerous cross-border cases in Germany and coordinated them internationally, acted as party representative and arbitrator in ICC, DIS, and ad hoc arbitration proceedings, published regularly on intellectual property law, spoken nationally and internationally on patent law issues, and for many years has been involved in training patent attorney candidates, particularly for the legal portion of the patent attorney examination.
