PMAC Director on panel at IP Union Congress in Amsterdam

Today, 11 June, Aleš Zalar, PMAC Director participated in a panel discussion entitled “Mediation, Arbitration and Settlements” at the IP Union Congress held in Amsterdam, also marking the 65th anniversary of the IP Union.

The panel addressed why mediation remains underused in IP disputes and explored its practical advantages over litigation, including timing, costs, confidentiality, enforceability, and its potential to support broader commercial solutions.

The discussion brought together a strong panel representing WIPO, PMAC, the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, and an IP owner perspective from Philips, ensuring a comprehensive institutional and user-focused dialogue.

The session aimed to move beyond theory and highlight when and why mediation and arbitration should be seriously considered as effective tools in intellectual property disputes.
